Welcome back.
So, yesterday you started on your wish list. I hope you had fun doing this and now have a massive list of every thing you want for your life.
Let’s get into the next part of this module. Today you’re going to learn:
- How balanced your life is
- What’s really important to you
Again, hopefully you’ve got a quiet spot somewhere so you can spend the next few minutes working on this without any interruptions.
Grab a piece of paper and something to write with.
- Draw a diagram of a sphere (circle) and divide it into eight equal sections.
You can find an example by clicking here
- Next write in each section the various areas of your life
You can find an example by clicking here
At this point there is something important about this exercise I would like to stress now – This entire coaching module is about You! So although I have given examples of some areas of someone’s life these don’t necessarily have to be yours.
If you would like to change health say to well-being or family to loved ones or career to work then by all means do.
It’s really important to do this exercise in your own voice – I hope that makes sense. Write the way you speak and focus on the areas of your life that are important to you.
Don’t however spend too much time over-thinking this.
Ok, now that you have the various areas of your life written down the next part of this exercise is to rate each area on a scale of 1 to 10. Imagine that in the center of the sphere is a 1 and this represents complete dissatisfaction with that area and that the outside of the sphere is a10 which represent the complete opposite which is total perfection. Make sense?
You can find an example by clicking here
Again don’t get too emotionally involved in each area – there is no need to spend time thinking why each area has a number attached to it. This shouldn’t take more than a couple of minutes.
Next you are going to work on your wish list again.
Go through your list item by item and do the following:
- Making use of your Sphere of Life, make a check mark next to your wish list item if, and only if, this area of your life will be improved by having this thing, seeing this place or becoming this person.
When I did this exercise for myself a few years back, one of the things I wrote down was to have the ‘proverbial sports car’. Now when I went through my own sphere there wasn’t one area of my life that would be improved by having that sports car!
Let’s go through this again using some other examples of life areas you could use:
Say the wish is to become a better father /mother. Will becoming this person improve:
- Home? – yes (so it gets a check √)
- Family? – definitely (so it gets a check √)
- Health? – possibly, depending on the circumstances
- Finances? – not clear
- Work? – yes (so it gets a check √)
- Personal Growth? – yes (so it gets a check √)
- Friends? – yes (so it gets a check √)
- Leisure? – yes (so it gets a check √)
So if we compare the sports car to being a better parent in this example, it’s not even a competition at 6 vs 0
Does this make sense?
Ok so work your way through your own list and Sphere of Life.
That’s it for today
Have fun! Take care
